He worked with the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) at Fort Lincoln, ND in the mid 1930's. Roy then spent most of his life farming. He farmed with his parents until 1940 when he bought his own farm at Brinsmade.
On July I 1, 1942, Roy was united in marriage to Ena Marie Piper at Esmond, ND. They made their home on the farm until November of 1975 when Roy retired and they moved to Leeds, ND. In 1983, Roy and Ena moved to Devils Lake where they have since made their home.
Roy was very active in the community and served on many boards, including the Harlow Farmers Union Elevator Board for 9 years, Brinsmade School Board, McClellan Township Board and Election Board. As a farmer, Roy had a wonderful talent to grow crops and as a carpenter he had a special talent to build and was a part of many building projects in Brinsmade and Leeds.
Roy loved the outdoors and hunting, especially pheasants, and when he was no longer farming he enjoyed gardening and walking every day. Roy also had a strong environmental spirit and made it his goal to plant as many trees as possible on the farm and in the Brinsmade area. Roy loved to play cards and of course this meant Roy was spending time with his dear family and friends.
